Army jeep my butt.

But that is exactly what I understand Elvis to have had for driving Priscilla around the shootin' range that was his backyard!
The Surrey Gala was meant to be a cheap runabout jeep for resorts to rent to their guests or to carry them around the island to show off the sights. :biggrin1:

Since we are so far off topic......and this is NOT a vintage Jeep.......but here is the latest version of the PINK JEEP, found at the Las Brisas resort in Acapulco, Mexico.

Note the SQUARE HEADLIGHTS...........

I know this is going to start a war, but here goes.

That is how I see all YJ's

When my girlfriend couldn't remember all of the alpha numeric designations of jeeps, I helped her by teaching her to remember "Y on God's green earth are their square headlights in that Jeep?" I think it's funnier that she doesn't care enough to try to remember anything about YJ's.

My buddy says that square headlights are proof that the Communists infiltrated Chrysler and were trying to destroy Americas's morale by ruining our most important icon. And the most often seen color on YJ's? Red! He says that a red YJ is the vehicle that he can see Lennin driving. (Maybe with Breshnev and Stalin riding along as his tow strap carrier and spotter? It would be a fistfight to see who gets the fourth seat; Jimmy Carter or Jacques Chirac.)

So go forth you YJ faithful. Enslave the bourgeois pigs! Raise the red Hammer and Sickle banner over Toledo!

Thank God we've got round headlights again! Better dead than red!

Since this started out about DJ-5's, and went into DJ-3A's, and PINK Jeeps, and then to
YJ's.............and we are so far off topic......I just wanted to show the actual Jeep that Elvis Presley really owned.....this is at Graceland.

Here is a better shot, I actually saw this in person when the family passed through TN on one of the wheeling trips. It does attract attention.

TRIVIA: The first Pink Jeep DJ-3A's were ordered by the Hilton Hotel in Hawaii......
and the following year, the Los Brisas Resort in Acapulco got them.

Elvis loved the pink vehicle, from the movie BLUE HAWAII, and then got one for himself.

Do you think we need a PINK JEEP thread?

MORE PINK JEEP TRIVIA:

The first Surreys were delievered to the prominent "Kaiser Hawaiian Village Resort", now known as the "Hilton Hawiian Village" as it was owned by Henry Kaiser, who also owned
Willys Motors.....which made Jeep vehicles.

THANK YOU! We now have our own special PINK JEEP thread!

From the pics it's hard to tell, but usually pink surrey galas were DJ-3As. If only someone would pop off a hubcap and expose the four lug wheel or send us a picture of the front end (with its concurrent lack of a differential) or a shot of the interior without the three shifters (and the shifter mounted on the column). :1thumb:
