Hmmmm, you guys sure make me doubt myself. This vehicle was brought over from Colombia. I know the local owner, he sold it about 4 months ago, wish I would have known.

Only a few changes, mostly visual, marked the CJ-3A from the 2A. On the CJ3A the windshield is a one piece design and has a vent just below it. Since this was restored I'm not sure if it had mix parts but it could be possible. Maybe you CJ experts can chime in. Notice the one piece design but no vent....

This must have mixed pieces, the 3B has the tall hood if memory serves. I don't think it's a 46' but if we had some numbers we could tell.

Next time I see the guy I will ask to make sure but after looking at it a bit closer the windshield also looks military to me. I wonder he sold it to.

The guys are correct; that's a CJ-3B which lasted in production from around 53 to 68. Lots of M606s (the military version) were sent to our allies, but that one looks like a civvy model. Lots of these survive in Latin countries south of us. The tall hood accomodated the Hurricane F-head (overhead valve) four cylinder which was much taller than the old Go-Devil four L-head (intake and exhaust valves in block). When the CJ-5 came out in 55, it absolutely killed sales of the -3B. With new styling and the same engine it cost less than a hundred dollars more than the -3B, so sales steadily declined. The versions made in the 60s are getting quite rare.

The other two photos are definitely CJ-2As though. Take a look at the windshield differences. The -2 and -2A (like their Ford GPW and Willys MB predecessors) have a sharper angle at the top than the -3A and -3B which is more rounded. The -3B loses its below windshield air vent since the space has been taken up by the taller cowl and hood.

In 1946, Willys-Overland introduced an important post-World War II vehicle, an all-steel Jeep station wagon, called by some observers the first "sport-utility vehicle," although it was available only in two-wheel drive.

This '49 Jeep wagon was given four-wheel drive. The wagon was designed by Brooks Stevens with body parts that could be manufactured by a firm that stamped parts for refrigerators. It was popular with returning vets familiar with the Jeep and desiring its utility as America's suburban housing boom was under way.

Willys introduced the '64 Jeep Wagoneer, the first new Jeep wagon since 1946.

It was the first mass-produced American car with overhead-cam engine, a 140-hp 230-cubic-inch six. It sold well.

Please don't ask me how I know, but in the special features section of the DVD version of The Incredible Mr. Limpett, there is a scene of the premier (at Weeki Wachi) with Don Knotts arriving in a brand new yellow FSJ Waggoneer.

At the time, this was the last American vehicle offered with side curtains instead of glass windows.


'Ever see one? These things were really a testament to American workmanship! :tdown: Pretty disappointing if you ask me. The planadyne suspension in the front end was easily replaced with a 4wd front end from the Universal Jeep, so there are a few around that the owners will try to pass off as "factory".

A guy had one of these at the Tower Shops last night... pretty poor condition but he has plans to rebuild...
