Well i got the time today to go work on my Trailer. The trailer had the rear part of the box cut out. I either could have rewelded it back on, but i decided i wanted to have a function tailgate on it. So i decided to make two side peices and weld them on th etrailer and get an early cj tailgate and use the original tailgate brackets and make a functional tailgate out of on hand parts. It will match my CJ5 nicely.

Here is a picture of the traielr with the tailgate and sides

i currently have the tub at the sand blaster and today i had a chance to take the frame outside and sand it down and clean it up. I didnt sand it down spotlessly, but enough i can stop rust and make it look nice, because this is going to be a working traielr.

Now i just have to get the tub back and a set of tires from a freind and it will be good to go. :2thumup:

Hey Dan,

That M416 is looking good. Dan I really like the work you put into that frame. :amazed: Please keep us updated with your build up. :2thumup: I know you mentioned it will be a work trailer but did these orignally come with a tail gate

1098nr, I'm really interested in hearing more about these trailers, :dance1: we might want to start another thread on this so we don't butcher up Dan's build up. I'm looking for an M100 or a Bantan with round fenders if possible even though I can always put them on if it does not have them. I'm trying to stay within my era because the M416s were a bit bigger.

Rollbar, Here is a side pic i have. Sorry, it is the only one right now since the tub is at the sandblaster.

Here are some more pics of the tailgate process. Jim, they did not originally come with a tailgate, they were fully encloised and could float :2thumup:

Dan,

I kind of figure they were the same as the Bantan or M100 but was not sure. A few of the guys have them around here with all fours and I was not sure if this was an option or not.

Rollbar, the M416 is a bigger trailer than the M100 or Bantan. The M416 replaced it and it might be more correct for your era and your build on the M170.
