We were discussing speed of wireless cards (for travel), dialup, cable & DSL. In another thread Romulus gave a link to test speed of your computer internet connection.

I found this link to report quite slow speeds as compared to other speed tests, don't know why unless they do this on purpose, slow down their download according to their bandwidth so they can then pop up an add to go and buy from them. Just speculating.

I started this thread so we don't get off topic on the original discussion of Laptops/GPS.

Here is few speed tests I found. In one of them it had different country servers and I noticed that Atlanta always gave the fastest speed.

Speakeasy Speed area Test

Here is another in TN
Speed TN

and for those who have Bellsouth
Bellsouth Speed Test

Out of all this I noticed that you never get the speed that your service publishes and depending on the server you are testing this with it's always different. Maybe things running in the background like antivirus and such might also effect it... who knows. :amazed:

Good questions. It's my understanding that Toast is a more accurate reflection of "real world" speeds. Cable may be capable of 2+ speeds, but network traffic, bandwidth, location, etc. all have impact on speeds.

Toast is neat because it allows you to run the test against different Web Hosts to account for a variety of situations. They point out that the test with the highest results should be the best indication of accurate results. I don't think it's a ploy to get sign ups - but then I see some of the things that happen where I work...... :amazed: and have gotten anywhere from 1000k through 4200K.

As with all things - YMMV.
