275/70's On an unlifted '03 WJ 4X4?

To get a wider tire to meet federal off-road permitting, I am considering 275/70-16 Forterra HL for my '03 Laredo 4X4.

I'm already running 245/75-16 Forterras with no problem at all.

The Goodyear folks say it looks like the 275's should fit fine since the OD is only 3/4's of an inch bigger and the width would go from about 9.8 to about 11 inches on my stock 7" rims.

Anyone else have any experience with 275/70-16's on a stock 4X4 WJ?

I'm thinking any problems might be solved by a relatively low-cost "budget lift" with puck-type spacers which shouldn't effect drive train geometry much.

drshame,

Where are you from, I don't see your Location on the left?

I own a WJ but I use it mostly on the street (wife's car, everything is hers). I have seen the budget boost lifts and they do exceptionally well (the ones I've seen are just the spacers).

If the tire dealer states that it might work, stuff each side to see what hits. Before I walk out of there I would also turn to full lock both left and right to see what hits under full steering lock, especially on the control arms.

Hopefully someone that has already done this can also chime in.

Miami Jeeper trying to keep Feds Happy to get ORV for Big Cypress!

I found that 265/70-16's might be my ticket to solving the width problem on my WJ.

My 245/75's work fine now but are too narrow.
How would 265/70's be on an unlifted WJ 4X4?

Overall height doesn't seem to be a problem, just width and possible LCA clearance at full steering wheel lock.

Anybody know for sure minimally what I'd need to get 265/70's on a WJ?

For safety-sake, I'd rather not start messing with changing suspension geometry and lifts beyond 2"..if even that's necessary.

Thanks!

drshame,

Just a thought if you have not already done so. You might want to search some of the other GC forums as I don't think we have to many guys around this BBS that have modified GCs. When you get an answer or do your own trial and error, please report back here and let us know what worked for you, possibly post some pics with that too. Good luck.
