I have used McAfee for years. Never had an issue.

I uninstalled System Mec Pro and I can't install anything.

AVG would not install, it said the installer is not correctly installed or in safe mode. General internal error.

did you do a reboot after removing SMPro before trying to install AVG?
Have you ever had AVG previously installed on that computer?

Yes rebooted and no, never had AVG on anything.

Here is a post about MS and their update that has affected some.

I note that people are uninstalling smPRO and STILL there is a problem with the corrupt INSTALLER.
SO WHO is at fault?
Microsoft Windows?
System Mechanic?

System Mechanic emailed me these instructions TODAY 17th May 20012.
- Open the System Mechanic. - Go to Toolbox> Individual Tools> Repair Problems. - Click Start under Registry Tuner. - under advanced, check custom optimization and repair - click next and proceed to the 'test' tab - On the 'test' tab click next and proceed to the 'options' tab. - On the 'options' tab click Add button. - Put check under Registry Name and add this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer. - Then put check on Exclude Keys, subkeys and values (Recursive) under Registry Name and as well as Partial Text Match OK under Registry Value. - Press OK. - Then click Next to finish the process. Excluding the necessary items from this tool WILL NOT exclude these items from the Power Tools such as PC TotalCare, ActiveCare functions or the 'Repair All' function as these are designed to run on default settings. It would be best that you run the repairs through the individual toolbox. Once the exclusion is set, and the registry tuner run, see if the error still occurs.

I followed the intrustions to the letter and still I have trouble with INSTALLER from Microsoft.

I WILL NOT BE UNINSTALLING SM/PRO as it appears after I have completed their efforts to fix the problem.
System Mechanic IS NOT the sauce of the ERROR CODE problem.
I conclue MICROSOFT WINDOWS is.

All those post are mainly a finger pointing/blame game.

Did that computer come bundled with any other antivirus that is still installed?

It is my VISTA machine and I think it came w/ Norton. I get rid of it a long time ago ??

I did google Problems with Windows Installer and found some good videos I need to check when I get home.

THe problem is the installer not letting me install anything, even UPDATES from MS.

I've been using ESET at home and work for years. Got rid of McAfee cuz it was a resource hog. With ESET, you forget it's even running. Also tried Bifender but went back to ESET a few days later.

On your install issue, try turning off the firewall before installing.
