Heading to work last week I heard a "pop" from the rear when leaving from a red light. Looked under the jeep and saw the rear driveshaft hanging. I had just disconnected the front driveshaft the night before because it is "slightly" bent and is causing vibration. Fortunately I had it w/ me. Put it on and limped home. Replaced the U joint and when reinstalling it notice the strap bolt had broken inside the yoke. I had an extra yoke from my old axles but decided to install the U bolt type strap instead of just swapping the yoke and leaving it the same.

You can see the strap bolt is broke inside the bottom right hole of the one on the left.

There are two FORD U bolt kits. Part # 81004 is an exact match.

I drilled the holes in the yoke w/ a 5/16" bit and installed the new strap bolts.

Awesome I just had the same thing happen about a month ago only I still had the front shaft in and drove home in fwd. I'll be doing this upgrade next week when I put in new u joints in the rest of the locations. :2thumup:

I like it! A while back (many moons) I replaced the yoke and did it the hard way to go along with the straps. They way all you guys did it is best and reasonable in cost. :good2:

T-Case side is a CV in the front and on the rear there is no strap on the factory slip yoke.
Well on TJ's that is.

You forgot to add lack of maintenance. I've notice that the squares usually don't do bolt checks, they just wait.

It may have been the U joints. It happened taking off from a green light in the morning. No wheel hop and no excessive skinny pedal (that time) :innocent:
