whats the best way to carry a couple surfboards on a cj5?

I was thinking on just putting a pad on the top of the windshield frame & strapping it to that and the rollbar.
but i'm not sure if thats enough to hold two 10ft boards since the 2 strap points would be so close to each other.

just bouncing around town you should be fine... a friend of mine picked up one of those light bars that run across the top of the windshield and converted it by adding a padded 1"x3" I think he did the same of over the rollbar... I do not think he ever did any high miles and he was not doing any super long... long boards... I will see if I can find any pics... he picked up the light bars cheeap at the scrap yard.

I like to see some pictures of one of them tied down, does it interfere with the full soft top

I ask not necessarily for a surfboard but for other things I needed to carry in a pinch.

I ended up getting some soft racks for my TJ. The board on top of the roll bar didn't feel secure enough without adding a light bar.

but this works with straps when theres no other option & a passenger still fit in the back seat
