Something like this may be what you need. The range extender get your signal and rebroadcasts it out

OK, I checked the second picture from CompUSA and it has a rating of 3dbi. I have a 2bdi antenna now @ the building. I don't see where this would be any advantage.

No difference in the signal you are just disabling it's router capabilities.

You could have 2 routers in line but things can get a bit complex so it is better to make the D-Link an Access Point only device.

What is the exact model and revision of the D-Link? It should have that info in the back or bottom of it.
example:
DIR-615
DIR-615_REVB
DIR-615_REVC
DIR-615_REVE

I have the DIR-615 D-Link.

The 30' looks better, ordering it now.

I received the 30' cbl and it did not work, seems it couldn't push the length.

Here is what I have @ the office,a 2dbi but now I found out they have 5dbi:
http://www.compusa.com/applications/Search...&CatId=2688

=============================================================

So what would be the best course, I did have the 615 in the bedroom window and it worked ok, but now I have the charters router/wireless in the living room so the kids could be hard wired for X-Box. I could run a hard wire from there through the attic to the bedroom via an ethernet cbl and see if the 615 will work as a access point (still haven't tried it).

I would much rather get a good hard signal to the office 300' away of which I was receiving 6Mbps but trying to get back to the house w/the 2Dbi antenna is hard now that I moved the router to the family room.

I'm almost ready to mortgage the Jeep

I know I can get out w/the signal, I need to get from the office to the router.

I need something that will work on the office side I think.

I'm getting 7Mbps (service is 36Mbps minimum to 45Mbps) @ the office PC looking @ the charter companies software on my PC.

I would like to boost the signal @ the house to the office and boost it back to the house I guess would be what I needed.

**Here is the router that is at the house installed by the cbl company. I went w/their router so they couldn't say this or that when I called about service etc.

The router they supplied is a UBEE DDW3612

Remeber those devices will receive your wifi signal and rebroadcast it so for it to be optimal you really need to place it somewhere near the limit of your current signal where it is still strong so it can pick it up and then rebroadcast it from that point on thus extending your range.

Can you make a floor plan of your location. Example Church, house and yard with dimension. I would like to have an idea of what we are working with. Kinda like a birds eye view

Ok, I can take pics and give you an idea.

I found this: But it is only 5Dbi antenna. I would think I would need something to push back unless the repeater will do it and amplify it beyond the 2 or 3 dbi.

I'll take pictures from the antenna's location to the house and explain.

Be back soon.

OK, office window on left. Looking up @ 2dbi antenna. Black 30' wire has to be taken down, antenna won't push through/legnth.

I will post these pictures from the office window to the house. Distance 250' from antenna to house. NO line of sight.

Go to the bottom of this page and it has different tab to click depending on needs:

http://wifi-link.com...ooster-antennas

I might be good for me to just tell them my problem and let them figure it out unless you can w/the pictures.

I wonder which antenna to get. Again, need to receive/transmit. I did see a USB booster.

So many questions but I have to get this right this time. :banghead:

Here is another link I'm reading:
http://www.wifi-link...tup.php?type=07

This site seems to be in the UK/Twain, not sure I would buy from this site :nervous:

Understood and I agree to the 1 mile thing, my question is how am I going to get the signal back?

It works both ways, I can get all the signal I want but it does no good if I can't get it back.

I'm working in the office now and it is slow, I have to copy this just incase it times out and try again.

I really like the link that shows the antennas from Twain, but I'm :nervous: to buy anything off that site, just not sure.

Statement/Question: Your 1 mile transmitter will work fine but, will it also help me get the signal back to the house?

Grasshopper out :)

If the unit has such a long range it will be both transmit and receive.

Agreed it can receive, BUT, can the little 2dbi antenna push that far w/the router in that location, w/a good signal :nono:

I need the same thing on both ends as far as transmit/receive so I won't have a problem once and for all.

If that means getting a antenna and putting it on the house/office where the office antenna is, fine, I'll just need to do it.

Plus the War-Dept is tired of me taking about my conections/speed/internet :rof:

Run an underground wire or Repeating again or run wifi routers in series (drop in speed), or go have breakfast.

I vote for hard wire to over WiFi any day. Run a wire t the office and if you want WiFi setup the D-Link over there.

OK guys, one more thing. Instead of this little antenna at the office, can you recommend a bigger antenna that I can actually run come wire to the end of the building so it will be line of site. Remember the other wire I bought, the small antenna couldn't push the signal, to weak.

Jim PM send w/P.O. Box I'll make sure I have a gift card for the Sandals Resort included if it works, then you and Willy can go have manly fun w/you Jeeps :rof:

I do not think the issue was the antenna I think the router you plugged it into could not push out that antenna. If that is the case only the router manufacturer can recommend and antenna for it

I have the office antenna (small one) plugged into the tower PC in the office VIA USB, but there is a port for a antenna plug in (HP-Pavillion, a6863w).

I was just wondering if it could have a bigger antenna. If not then maybe Jim's signal booster would work.

When the Router was in the bedroom window at the house it was pretty good and I could do more, BUT, before I spend 50 bucks on a ethernet cable to hard wire from the family room to the bedroom, I would like to see if the repeater or something else would work since it is about the same money.

One thing I can't get over in my mind is, IF the small antenna at the office (2dbi) can receive (which we all know) and just say I hook up Jim's booster, yes the signal will get here but I still have to have an antenna to get it back.

I don't see where a signal/router can receive unless something is sending and w/good quality. This is my hang up.

Or, second though is a repeater in the bedroom window where the router use to be.

I really would like a better antenna at the office and then as well a repeater/booster for speed etc. but not sure which one to get.

Maybe I'll just fly you out West and you can do a major install, then we will go wheeling in the snow

The one I'm referring to is not a signal booster. It is an amplified access point. Plug it to the rj45 in back of your router, plug to electrical outlet and your done. You then have software (no support) you load and configure. The actual access point is right inside the unit.

What I don't understand is why you can't take a weekend, dig a narrow 4" run and bury the wire, this would be your fastest. I'm sure you can find cable in bulk.

I have a couple of those 2.4GHz PANEL 14dBi Antenna's in the garage. We used them at the Lake for wireless bridges at 300 feet with excellent results, latency was 2-5 milliseconds on average.

You are welcome to have them, I have no use for them anymore. Using the indoor antenna near bay window glass will cause lower signal, and more latency.

Look up a couple of Cisco Aironet 1200 AP's on Ebay, you can pick them up cheap now and they work like a Timex.

I have someone sending me these so we will see. Not sure if I will have the install directions :banghead:

These will work, it is similar to what I have. Try to use only one. If the access point is also part of it it could be a B instead of G or N. Does not matter even if it's a B because if the signal is strong it will be just as good except for top download which on a wifi going from 10 strong to 54 weak or barely you will not notice the difference. Besides when I tested mine the B had a heck of a lot more range than the G or N.

Now, if you trench and go with wire, then your cooking. But... we know.

I think the panels are B or G compatible, I will see.

I do need two access points and I have a PC Geek who owns a business and gives discounts to Jeepers VIA Reno 4x4. He suggested blank - blank over ethernet (forgot the word), maybe it was power over ethernet and the access points would be in the antenna housing. Sounds like a good set up to me but he is checking on cheaper prices and if I don't like it/them, he will buy them back at retail. I'll have to get the name of the access point (200 bucks each) and the cheaper one he is looking for.

P.S. Come on out to wheel and spin the tires to dig my trench :)
