i am NOT a mechanic.
i dont know crap about cars but i bought the factory service manual and did the work myself in my gravel driveway.
no it wasnt fun or easy.
but now i can hop in it and go for a spin whenever i want.
the moral of this story is.
if you are willing to knuckle down and get on it.
anybody can do it!

Your CJ5 looks good! As you said, a little work goes a long way.
If you don't fight for the trails, there won't be any trails to fight for.
What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.
Zig Ziglar
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling that thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." ....

thank you.
now that i am not throwing thousands of dollars at it just so i can have the priviledge of watching it sit immobile in my driveway and leak.
i love it!
i have never had a car that is a blast to drive at 35 mph before...

Nice looking CJ5. Great job with the restore
I have a 1961 myself but it has a fiberglass tub that does not show the markings like the original tub has.

that was a huge amount of work for a guy with no mechanical experience.
i didnt have any tools and had never even driven one.
i bought that willys on craigslist sight unseen.
it wasnt a very smart thing to do ...
but i did it anyway.
this is the only vehicle in the world i know anything about.
but i know a LOT about this one!
300+hours labor
and a grand total of $4500 (so far)counting vehicle price.
come tax return time i am installing an overdrive.
it does suck not being able to go on the highways.

I really like the look of the enclosure.
Keep those pictures coming, the terrain brings back some memories.

IE. completely screw it up by replacing everything with new shiny crap.
so i started with an unmolested engine/drivetrain /brakes/steering etc.
that T-98's 1st gear crawl ratio of 85 to 1 has to be seen to be believed

because of my lack of experience.
i don't like working on this thing.
i get stuck on the simplest tasks and become frustrated and what would take the average Joe an hour
takes me three days.
i have no gear head buddies to show me anything.
but i have cultivated friendships with a number of vintage jeep enthusiasts on line.
and they have held my hand through this entire project. as well as sold me original parts for a song.
without their help i would have sold this Willy's the first week i owned it.
but now that it rolls i am going to hop in it and go shooting today.
what do ya wanna bet i got the coooolest ride at the range?
