Question:
1. If one is using local WiFi are there any security measures one can use to protect themselves?
2. Does the Norton help or is that a different animal?
3. What security measures can one use to help protect themselves (I know banking etc.)?
Kountry Air RV Park is probably where we will start our new adventure and look all over the State for our new home, scarry isn't it . The wheeling has to be better up there anyway.

internet is internet. the websites you go to should have some sort of encryption to protect you if there is personal information being transferred. (banks, email, etc.) you are, of course, always using the internet at your own risk. there is really nothing you can do anymore. well there is actually. BUY A MAC!
Norton is an antivirus or spyware program that is always running to protect you. it will help from threats.

Norton Internet Security will help or any software firewall. Banks and most reputable secure sites use use SSL to encrypt you information when you are using their services.

Forget Norton garbage. I use AVG and love it. Best out. Catches alot more than Norton or Mcafee.
www.avg.com and its free. Got it from one of the IT tech guys at work about a year or so ago.
And WiFi isnt secure at the PC or laptop. That falls to AVG or Norton as normal. But you can secure the router.
I leave mine open at home but can type the security code and lock it out from everyone but those with the code.

I agree that AVG is way better than Norton but not sure if the free version has a Software Firewall which is what he needs.
He has WIFI access so he will need a Software firewall. The router will get you firewall when you have and ISP but not via WIFI connection to a public network.

So will I be ok or what?
Do you have a software firewall?
I just checked and the free AVG has no firewall. AVG Internet Security has it and it cost $49.99
