Just a thought but we never do it.
Set your timing, turn off the engine; remove the hold down bolt/clamp & seal the distributor where it turns w/the BLUE type sealant type that has a resistance to water & oils etc. Don't use the regular gasket maker for the heads, the blue one is the one U want.
Just a thought,
