Ok. here's the deal. As some of you know I am painting the CJ8 OD. The frame, underside of tub etc have been painted already. I am going to wheel w/this Jeep and use the bed of it to haul stuff.

Now here it goes.

Painting the outside of the tub OD is not the question, it's the inside. Now the top is black. Thinking of the color scheme Black/OD. Axles black, hood hinges, latches. Thinking the combined color would off set the OD & still look good tieing the to colors together.

my opinion is to paint the rollbar black. just my preference. the herculiner is definitely a good choice for the tub. i think the wheel wells are better to be hurculinered but can you paint over herculiner? that's another option(?).

Knowing what you will be doing with the 8 I voted for number 3.

OK, I found out that U-POL RAPTOR bed liner can be tinted. If so, can I use my regular OD paint I got from Midwest Military and tint the U-POL? If I can tint it then the whole bed will be OD.

If not then back to number 3.

Comments on this product ??

Found this:
U-POL RAPTOR tintable PDF

I might have to call and see if I can mix (tint) the Gillespie OD with this stuff. If so then I will spray the bed OD Raptor. Anyone know ?

Not sure on that one. I do know that you can use tint with Linex+Kevlar.

Ok, here is what I found out.

I just got off the phone w/Jim (U-Pol) and he says I can order the tintable product that is CLOSE to my color and with in 6 hours of application I can spray the OD over the Raptor. After 6 hours I would have to scuff the product w/a pad. He said I can call the 800 Number and the girl (I think Kathy is her name) can get pretty close to my OD. The ENAMEL OD (23070) I have won't work w/a direct mix, needs to be urethane. I did ask about flaking/peeling off if I shoot the OD over the Raptor, Jim said if done w/in 6 hours there shouldn't be a problem and w/the base tinted coat it would look that bad and would easily touch up. If anyone needs info on this from a person who knows I will post the number below.

Also, try looking into Cote-L industries..They make duraback, and it comes in all kinds of colors. Can't see why they wouldn't be able to tint it to exactly what you want..
Worth a try..

I must go w/the poll OB1 :)

My son who is an artist say's #3 would look good. So what I'm gonna do is order the Raptor black and spray the bottom, sides and front inside of the tub w/the black. The wheel wells and rollbar I will leave smooth w/OD.

Thanks for all the input.

Now I will post another Poll :)

Why not get the color in urethane and mix it with the DIY bedliner?

I voted for the contrast option, but I think it could be kinda tricky to do. Not sure how well your tape will stick during the masking off of the areas already lined. Good Luck, look forward to seeing it when its done. :1thumb:

Wow...... It's looking great. By the looks of the pics on the other posts you are making great progress. I see that I misunderstood your questions in this poll. I thought that by what you meant about the contrast colors you were only painting the wheel wells OD and the floor pan Black hence the comment about masking off  The contrast was a good choice, I'm glad I picked it  :amazed:

U r right Bill, I was going to do the wheel wells & thought it would look good but realizing the touch up or even the color mix wouldn't look that close to the OD would look like
