Why would U want to update your BIOS. The battery on my two yr old Laptop reads it is poor. HP says to uninstall the device driver (APCI) for the battery & if that doesn't work update the BIOS. I didn't uninstall cause they weren't clear on the steps. I updated the BIOS and things to run better/boot up better but the battery is still poor. It happened like all of a sudden.
Anyway I updated from 2/2007 - 2-11-2008 so I guess it helped.

The bios is the firmware of the MB. It may have new enhancements like battery managements or mearly bug fixes also sometimes they add more capability like the ability to install more memory and the ability to read larger HD. Stuff like that.
I ususally like to keep my stuff current but that is just me

Should I use the same link from HP on the kids PC & should I use the same link from time to time. How often does the BIOS need updating?
I forget the name the program was but it was not from HP.

Bios are specific to each Computer. It is not something you need to keep up with. I do from time to time and read what improvements they have added and update if I see benefit.

Specific to each computer so the link from HP for the Laptop won't work for the other XP towers, right.
