Ok, I have about a 5 yr old XP tower (HP) A 705W Pavilion & I have 760mb in the ram slots. A 256 & a 512. I went on line to see just what this boat anchor can hold form HP. HP says the max the PC can hold is 1gig.
So, since my birthday (coming in a few days) is near my kids decided to get me a web cam and more RAM cause they were getting tired of me sitting here waiting for it to load etc. (I did get rid of some stuff ) so they bought me a 1gig stick. I now have a extra 256 stick sitting (I gave my son my 512 so now he has a 512/256 in his). I was wondering if I could stick the stick in (No pun intended ) (of course I can ) & use it or will it over load/heat up the ole processor or something like that.

If HP states 1GB is the max then it will not work with the extra 256. The PC may either not recognize it or not boot at all and give you memory failure

also, if it states 1 gig max and has two slots, it might only be able to read 512 sticks...

If you don't build your own PC, try Tiger Direct forsome great prices for computers. You will be amazedat the speed you will pick up w/ a dual core processor.

I hate when that happens
Thanks all for responding. I guess I'll stick to building Jeeps and not computers.
P.S. I have a 1gig stick on one of the slots and the other slot is empty. Working fine, I just need to get rid of some stuff, only 7gigs left on the HD
