fired up the '79 and moved it to the backyard. sounds pretty painless right? well i didnt mention that it has a bad gas tank/lines and i had to rig a plastic tank off the front bumper to get it running. also it has a severely bent spring so i have extremely limited steering. the best part is the z-bar clutch linkage broke on the last trip out so i had to start it in gear and turn it off when ever i had to switch between forward and reverse. about 5 times. will start the rebuild shortly.

Smokey and Goblin... what kind of saw did you two use to trim those fenders?

I used a dremel on mine and Goblin did the same. We taped the fenders off with the blue painters tape and went at it. If you got any questions PM me and I'll let you know the tricks.

Some of these "Worked on My Rig", should be a topic of it's own on this forum, especially the ones with pictures and a bit of explanation.

Doing it this way helps others when they search a topic to see how others have done it.

I replaced my stock tie rod with very dead ends with a new ZJ tie rod from a 1998 V8. Much bigger and substantial. No more death wobble. Woo Hoo!

Finally got the front seats out of the XJ as well as the carpet. Next is the rear seat and truck carpet.
No more Jeep. :(

Thank you to all of those whom have helped me through the years. There have been some amazing rides and events.

Dropped the puke goat. Waiting for the necessary parts to install the (1994) Ax-15. Tellico 4x4 back ordered my new input shaft, now I must find another (AA). I'm having one helluva time locating the correct pilot bushing. I have the 4.2 and have read that an early 70's Cj V8 bushing will work. A lot of the parts stores around here don't carry them. I have two for a 1980 & 81 CJ V8 (which i have also read will work) being delivered from another store and should be here tomorrow so hopefully one will work. Hopefully I will have it all back together by next Thursday.

I hate the smell of "chocolate milk" gear oil. It seems to be stuck in my sinuses. PUKE!

Hopefully Rich will chime in as he was the one who did it.
He sanded the wheels real good and painted it with primer and then used DupliColor Spray On Bedliner that comes in a rattle can.

He found a post at anther forum for JK's that had the info

here is the write up I used as reference

http://sieran.simnet...cs/mods/wheels/

The only difference is that I used Formula 88 degreaser to clean the wheels/tires after sanding. I also hit it with brake cleaner. I wanted to make sure the masking tape would actually stick to the rubber. I had done my spare using only simple green a week earlier and had some trouble with the masking tape sticking. Also, I sprayed it with duplicolor etching primer prior to hitting it the Duplicolor bedliner paint. I used two cans of the primer and its about 1 can per rim. I also duplicolored my radio antenna the same way...sanding/etching primer/duplicolor.

Thanks...

Another big reason I went for a full cage and not rely upon Jeep's factory "Sport Bars" is that if I flop.. I want to be able to push it back over and continue on.
With the sport bars there is a good chance your day will not only be over but your rig will probably sustain catastrophic damage to the windshield frame and factory bars.
