I was wondering how difficult it would be to add a quick reply box on the bottom of the post. I have gone to some forum that have the ability to do a response right from the bottom of the page and not direct you to a new page. Not that going to a new page is a pain or a bothersome, just wondering if it could be done for those quick responses.
Thanks

Not difficult at all.

The full window has more editing features than the quick reply box, yes the quick reply is easier and it would not take up much room at the bottom.
It will take a bit more time to load for people with slower internet service.

The question remains... How many would really use it?

If I'm not mistaken they can still open the emoticon box.

If there is more requests to do this we can look into it.

Take a look at the Test Forum, there is a Quick Reply Box at the Bottom.

What don't you see. A Quick Reply Box only shows when there is an existing topic not when you are looking at the main topic view of a forum.

Navigate to one of the topics there and look at the bottom.

Yes, you will have to hit fast reply to see it if it was previously closed.
Once you have it open it will remain open until you close it. If you don't close it, it will stay open.
I will remember each user or Member setting for each forum.

You can also hit "More Options" and go to the Full blown Editor.

Again, if there is no interest in the Majority of the JT Members for a Fast Reply Box, than there is really no point and I might as well leave it out.
As of now it is only enabled in the Test Forum.

No it would not be the same. There are many more features in the full editing box.

I can also see your point with a slow internet connection.

If there is enough interest we can look into making it available on all of the forums.

Personally, I would use it a lot as I rarely use the "added" items that would not be available through the quick reply.

Do you rarely use the "Quote" feature like I'm using now?

It depends, if I am replying to a post that is more than 1 or 2 posts above what I am responding to, then yes, if not, generally no.

If we were to implement this feature...

which Forums does everyone feel that the QRB be more useful? Do you feel that all forums should have the QRB?

If it's not too much work, all of em. I think the tech ones would be first on the list, if an order of some sort needs to be implimented.;

i would say just one forum and then youll get feedback from everyone. maybe chit chat as there is more one line replies there. there is also more emoticons used there so more thought might be need if going to test this feature with the members. i am with rambo, change is bad. but this is minor and should be pretty painless for us "caveman" types.

We will look into adding the QRBs since some of you thought of it as a useful amenity.

Not sure what you mean by this, the emoticons are accessible from the QRB.

The QRB has now been added to all of the forums. Please report any interface issues using this topic that you might encounter while using this feature.

As you can see no inquiry as to a feature or how our JT interface works goes without review.

The one thing that I do notice (I could be mistaken) is that by having the QRB open all the time, a user might tend to think that the topic they are reading has ended when they see the open QRB at the end of each page. Some topics such as this one may have more reply pages which the navigating menu is listed on the top left of the QRB box.

You could avoid this by closing the QR box and hitting the "Fast Reply" tab to open it back up when you are ready to reply if one will not be using the Full Editor or Quoting text from another post. If you change your mind and still want to use the features of the Full Editor you can click on the "More Options" tab located in the center at the bottom of the QRB which will take you straight there.

There is also one feature that people tend to ignore which is very usefuf but can only be used with the Full Editor which I will be bringing up at a later time in a separate topic.

I actually reall like it, on a lot of the other forums I frequent, it is exposed at all times, I dig the hidden feature. Although with the awesome amount of options we have here on JT, the page is starting to look like the cocpit of a Jet.. You can pretty much do anything you would need to on JT. I still like the clickable links for the IMG personally, and have you ever seen the preview feature some boards have, when you hover over a topic the first few lines come up in a little window?

I personally like the box closed and open it when I need to as it keeps the screen more streamline.

Yes, those are custom code modifications. We have been talking about it now for 2 years. It's ok but I rather like the stream line look and when you hover over it now the original time and date of when the topic started shows up. Still toying with the idea but have not found a good enough of a strong reason.

You will not find it in the QRB, you will need to use the Full Editor. There is another way that you can get around it but I do not want to hijack this topic. You are welcome to start another with regards to this or any other feature in question. Glad to see that a few of you like the QRB.

Absolutely agree, on one of the forums I use, they are so commercial that whenever you hover on a tag phrase or word, like Jeep, ads pop up in the same type preview, thinking about it, while I like the idea for a quick look at the post, it might get annoying, or not be a great use of resources in this environment, something to think about.
Thank you

For those of you that are showing the QRB open at the bottom of each topic that you visit. If you would like to have it close to keep your pages low profile and streamline and opening the QRB (which opens fast) only when you need it, do the following.

Go to My Controls
Left pane toward the bottom find "Board Settings"
Under "Posting Settings" you will see;
"Open Fast Reply automatically when available?"
Change it to "No" If you want to leave it open on each topic that you visit, change it to "Yes".

You will still have use of it by clicking on the "Fast Reply" button at the bottom.
