Does any one here have any experience with old Starters

Battery is good, electrical is good. When she cranks the starter sounds like it can't get out of bed at times with a binding sound and then she turns.

Could it be going bad :2:

1. Could be one of the contact windings is broken/barley on if U know what I mean.
2. Bushing worn out & front gear teeth binding until it makes contact w/the flywheel then centers it self on the flywheel & rides it, thus, not binding/grinding anymore.
3. Ground.
4. Let me have the Jeep for a while to check it out & then I'll give it back in oh, say, 2199

Pull the starter & C what U have. If it is bushings/brushes, yes. Check the end play on the gear for slop as it rides on the shaft. U can ground the starter & jump it w/jumper cbls to see what is going on.

P.S. R U missing any bolts that hold it in
